Week 2 football review
From www.SportsInk.com
Exactly half of the Northeast Ohio Conference's 18 football teams carry unbeaten marks into Week 3, while the league has a 22-10 cumulative non-league record.
Brunswick, Solon and Mayfield are 2-0 in the top Valley Division, while Twinsburg, Elyria and Hudson are without losses in the middle River Division. The Lake Division also boasts three perfect squads in North Royalton, Garfield Heights and Lyndhurst Brush.
Each division has gone 8-4 through two weeks, though the River can currently claim bragging rights by winning both interdivisional contests (Hudson over Medina, and Twinsburg over Parma Heights Valley Forge).
A look at how the divisions stack up entering the final week of out-of-NOC competition:
VALLEY
Brunswick (2-0, vs. Massillon Perry) got 149 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns from Lorenzo Pace in a 24-7 win over Avon Lake.
Solon (2-0, vs. Mentor) rolled past Massillon Jackson 31-7, while Mayfield (2-0, vs. Olmsted Falls) outscored Willoughby South 40-18 as kicker Carey Spear made 45- and 49-yard field goals.
Medina (1-1, vs. Wadsworth) broke into the win column as wide receiver Danny Rymer caught three touchdown passes in 30-0 blanking of its bee brethren, Brecksville.
Nordonia (1-1, vs. Chagrin Falls Kenston) dropped a 37-29 shootout at Wadsworth despite 242 passing yards and three touchdowns via the air from quarterback Zach Lewis.
Strongsville (0-2, at Parma Padua) is likely the best winless team in Ohio, getting 153 rushing yards from Matt Bianco in a 17-10 loss to Mentor. The Mustangs lost to Euclid 21-14 in their opener.
RIVER
Twinsburg (2-0, at Aurora) quarterback Andrew Collier fired three touchdowns as the Tigers scored 35 first-half points in a 42-0 rout of Parma Heights Valley Forge.
Hudson (2-0, at Massillon Jackson) locked down on defense and got one passing and one rushing score from Richie Piekarski in a 14-7 win over Uniontown Lake.
Elyria (2-0, at Avon Lake) notched an impressive 34-20 triumph over North Olmsted, while Lakewood (1-1, at North Olmsted) fell to North Ridgeville 23-10.
Stow (0-2, at Massillon Washington) lost a backyard brawl to Kent Roosevelt 21-17, while Cuyahoga Falls (0-2, vs. Akron North) was whipped by Boardman 35-0.
LAKE
Preseason favorite North Royalton (2-0, vs. Highland) took down Revere 31-7, while Garfield Heights (2-0, vs. Parma Heights Holy Name) clobbered Cleveland East 48-6.
Lyndhurst Brush (2-0, vs. Toledo Scott) continued its wacky out-of-conference slate by drilling Cleveland Collinwood 39-6.
Parma Normandy (1-1, vs. Brecksville) lost to Youngstown Poland 41-29, Parma (1-1, at Berea) got shutout by Parma Padua 35-0, and Valley Forge (0-2, at Maple Heights) failed to score in its aforementioned 42-point loss to Twinsburg.
